Global Entrepreneurship Week is an exciting week for local entrepreneurial ecosystems. “Global Entrepreneurship Week is a celebration of the innovators and job creators who launch startups that bring ideas to life, drive economic growth and expand human welfare.”

Erie Arts & Culture “Fall for the Arts”  Thursday, 11/19, 5:30 p.m. at the Erie Playhouse  For over 20 years, the Arts & Culture Appreciation Awards recognize those who have been vital volunteers, leaders, artists, or those who’ve made outstanding contributions to arts and cultural education, creating a vibrant community through their work. This year’s award ceremony will be held at the Erie Playhouse with a reception to follow at 21 La Rue Dix. For tickets:

Penn State Behrend will be holding these events in honor of Global Entrepreneurship Week:

QUICKSTARTER LECTURE: Friday November 13,10-11 a.m., Burke 002: Kris Wheaton, associate professor at Mercyhurst University, will be speaking about his very successful Quickstarter program, which teaches would be entrepreneurs how to create and conduct a crowd-funding campaign, on a platform such as Kickstarter.  To date, those that have used Wheaton’s program before seeking funding, have an almost 80% success rate in reaching their financial goal.   Wheaton will be on the lookout for students who would like to help work with these companies in preparing for their launch.

INNOVATION COMMONS OPEN HOUSE:  Tuesday November 17th and Thursday November 19th10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Burke 109:  Innovation Commons, a business lab equipped with AutoCAD modeling programs, scanners, and 3D printers, offers students, faculty members, and industry partners a place to develop product ideas and create prototypes.  Lean more about what resources are available, programs that are planned, and how you can volunteer to help.  Light refreshments will be served.

LEARN FROM AN ENTREPRENEUR: Wednesday November 18th, 10-11a.m. Burke 002:  Erieentrepreneur and investor Brian Scott will speak about his “Entrepreneurial Journey”.  Brian is the President and CEO of Express Management Group, a company that he co-founded, as well as a member of the Blue Tree Allied Angel investor group, and co-chair of the Erie based Innovation Collaborative.  He’ll talk about the trials and tribulations of starting a business, best practices, and provide observations from his experience mentoring various entrepreneurs.
